Only two visitors this month and this is what they had to say:
LAKE RECORD AT VRAUX IN JANUARY - ITS WORTH A TRIP!
After consulting the owner to see if the lake was frozen the green light was given for me and my partner ( who is 14weeks pregnant) to fish at Vraux, January 2010, for five days.
Lisa is a keen and capable carp angler with a P.B of 54lb which previously beat mine of 52lb, both P.Bs caught from the main lake at Juvigny, as we have been regulars over the years.
Arriving at Vraux in nearly freezing conditions, with the weather forecast remaining positive for the duration of the stay, we both set up two rods each all with bottom baits (10mm tutti fruitti).
After three days with no action and a fish showing on the opposite side of the lake I put out a zig rig about six foot long with a pineapple pop up and a small piece of yellow foam, just to keep it
up for a bit longer if needed. After about one hour I had a take but the fish shook its head and was off within seconds of hooking it, "bloody size tens for you" I thought to myself! I recast the rod to the same spot and left it out for the night.
No more action meant a change and in the morning I shortened the zig to approx 19 inches and recast to the same spot, three hours past then the same rod screamed off once again, I was in at last! The fish felt like a good one, although I would have been happy with anything at all at that moment in time. It took me into a weed bed about 20 yards out and all locked up, but after a short time and a bit of gentle sideways pressure it was soon on the move again taking line and shaking its head trying to shed the hook. I didnt seem to be gaining much line and it went for the weed bed for a second time and all locked up again, so once more some gentle side pressure and a move to a higher bank and out she came. I gained a bit of line at this point until it was about 5yards out then I saw it was a big mirror, but was still not sure of the size. I gently raised the rod as high as possible and slowly walked backwards, Lisa had the net in the water ready and waiting and slipped the it under the fish on the first pass. I had'nt seen it properly until this point and as I turned to get the carp cot Lisa stated, "this is massive!!!". As I lifted the fish into the cot I knew myself it was well over 50lbs. The carp took the scales round to 61lb and this is a moment I will never forget. The first fish of the trip, a new lake record and a P.B. what a result for a cold January session which most people would have written off.
The same day I did catch another 30lb mirror which looked absolutely lovely in winter orange, so come on guys if a female who is pregnant can hack it in the cold so can you.......
Thanks Chris
