You will be shown to areas with the best known potential for catching carp. At least 2 prebaiting sessions will have been done prior to your arrival in order to draw fish into the area and get them on the bait. There are over 7km of legal night zones that all hold fish. If after 2 days you have seen nothing to get exited about then I would move swim. I can advise you on potential holding areas so do not worry and make sure you travel as light as possible. The kitchen sink is not an asset on the river!!!
Marking your spots
A marker rod set up is important to find and mark your features although flow does cause problems and it’s normally just a tool for finding variation of the river bed material. Ensure you have something to mark your line in order to put the bait back to your chosen spot. I would also use makeshift markers on some spots, these could be plastic bottles or pieces of polystyrene.
Bait Application
For a standard week I would recommend the following bait per person:
10kg boilies, ones you are confident in, of good quality. The new bait for 2008, MARNE VALLEY MATRIX is set to be a winner and could be a valuable key to your success.
5kg giant tigers
5kg 25mm pellets
To start with I would tend to vary the quantity of bait applied per rod. If you are going to introduce a large bed of bait then be prepared to sit on it for at least 2 days before action occurs.
Tackle
The following list highlights some of the main elements required:
MARKER ROD – braid can be used when feature finding and marking spots but ensure it is min. 20lb BS.
MAIN LINE – min 20lb test, make sure its tried and tested and you have respooled with new line, nothing worse than loosing a potential monster due to defective line.
LEADERS – I use heavy braid when there are problems with cut offs or I need to steer the fish away from a snag.
LEADS – Ensure you have a selection of between 6 – 10oz to cover all eventualities. I use the Korda Grippas.
RODS – Do not come over with anything less than 3lb TC, you may struggle if you do.

Terminal Tackle
You need strong rig elements, avoid fine gauge wire hooks, they will bend, and beef up your hook link to at least 25lbs. There are crayfish in certain areas so bring some protection for your boilies, nothing worse than reeling in to find no bait.
